What is Chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is a treatment plan that takes the whole body, mind, and spirit into account. It is done without the use of drugs or surgical intervention. Chiropractic is a healing profession that is gaining rapid mainstream popularity among sportsmen and women as well as everyday people who just want to live a healthier life that is pain free. Your doctor of chiropractic has spent a great deal of time and education to learn the body and how best to serve it and you.
The doctor of chiropractic works with the spine and nervous system. Chiropractors were the first to recognize that spinal bones (Vertebrae), twist slightly out of place, which in turn causes pressure on the nerve roots (or nervous system), which is called a “Subluxation”. This creates altered physiology resulting in inflammation and irritation. We can help you by analyzing, locating and removing the subluxation through gentle chiropractic adjustments.
Chiropractic is a holistic approach to healing. Through adjustments, exercises, and a healthy lifestyle, the self-healing properties of the body can be realized. Depending on your problem, chiropractic can offer immediate relief or relief in a series of sessions.
What are the benefits of Chiropractic care?
The benefits of Chiropractic care extend way beyond simple pain relief, although most people looking for symptomatic relief many end up experiencing significant functional and qualitative improvements. As we adjust the spine to correct the misalignments here are a list of some of the improvements patients have reported back:
- Better quality of sleep
- More energy
- Improve muscle efficiency and strength
- Better movement
- Improvement concentration
- Improved balance and co-ordination
- Better posture
- Run smoother
- Lift easier
- Lower rate of injuries
Today’s chiropractic care
When a joint is injured it moves slightly from its normal position, it becomes misaligned or gets stuck. This shift causes some of the ligaments around the joint to stretch. As the ligaments stretch the nerves in the ligament are set off, sending a signal to the brain that there is a problem in the joint. A reflex signal is then sent back to the muscles around the joint to tighten in order to protect the joint.
This process is called the Dorsal Ramus Reflex. It is the bodies’ way of trying to keep its self balanced and functioning as well as it can. But sometimes this actually leads to imbalances which need the help of a Doctor of Chiropractic to correct.

How does chiropractic care work?
Doctors of Chiropractic use Chiropractic adjustments to realign the joint, to improve how the joint functions, reducing the tension on the ligament causing a reducing in the pain signals up to the brain as well as reducing the reflex signal causing the muscle spasm.
So what is the primary problem, the joint? The nerves? The ligaments? The muscles? The simple answer is, we treat them all. The Chiropractic adjustment restores the joint to its normal position, which reduces the stretch on the ligament and therefore calms the pain signals being sent from your brain. Dry Needling, micro-current, cold laser and soft tissue techniques help to reduce muscle spasm. Applied Kinesiology, stretches and rehabilitation exercises help to correct any muscle and postural imbalances to help you get back in the game sooner and stay away for longer.
Understanding your symptoms
When you take pain medication it works by reducing the number of signals traveling between the nerves in the stretched ligaments and the brain. The underlying problem though (the misaligned joint causing the ligaments to stretch) is not treated and will remain until it is corrected or the body will adapt to this new position, which can result in imbalances. These imbalances can cause discomfort, tension and even chronic pain if left untreated. Sometimes symptoms such as headaches, pins and needles, numbness and tingling, blurriness of vision and nausea can be mistakenly diagnosed as the result of a “long day at work” or stress related. The body’s ability to send us signals is remarkable. These symptoms or signals are our body’s way of telling us there is a problem that is in need of repair.
Safe Healthcare for the Entire Family
The role of the chiropractor is to improve your nervous system function overall, rather than treating a specific disease or symptom per se. Chiropractors can effectively treat patients of all ages, including babies and children and the elderly, with gentle adjustments. Chiropractic care is very safe and is thought to help the body heal itself.
